Submission and Respect from Husbands – 1 Peter 3:7-8

April 26th, 2012

Many Christians believe that submission in marriage is the duty only of wives. These Christians often make a point of saying that the Scriptures never state that husbands are to be submissive to their wives. In the instructions to Christian men in 1 Peter 3:7, however, Peter comes very close.

Silencing Slander – 1 Peter 2:11-17

January 31st, 2012

The true status of Peter’s readers was that of a holy people belonging to a holy God. In view of their true status, Peter tells his readers to abstain from sinful desires of the flesh. What are these “desires of the flesh”? Also, Peter gives advice about silencing slander.

This week’s passage contains one of my favourite verses in Scripture – 1 Peter 2:16 – which presents an interesting paradox.

May 14th, 2011

“. . . for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

Peter’s Greeting – 1 Peter 1:1-3

May 11th, 2011

In these few verses Peter reveals that each member of the Trinity has a role in salvation: the Father’s role is choosing, the Holy Spirit’s role is sanctifying, and the Son’s role was to be the redemptive sacrifice. But we have a role too.
